Republic Day At the Bay

Fremont - This year the 63rd Republic Day was celebrated with all the enthusiasm  in the Bay area. On January 26th, both houses of the California State Legislature honored India’s Republic Day for the first time. California Senate Majority Leader Ellen Corbett introduced California State Resolution 97 at the start of the Senate session, which recognizes India Republic Day.

 

On 29th January, Radio Zindagi 1550 am, South Asian radio station  in Bay Area and Ajay Jain Bhutoria and Vinita Jain Bhutoria of Association for Kids and Youth Programs celebrated the Indian Republic Day Celebration at the Lake Elizabeth Teen Centre in Fremont. Ajay Jain Bhutoria is a Author, Speaker and Entrepreneur living in the city of Fremont. Ajay worked for PWC Consulting and IBM and then decided to start his Corporation “Global Business Consulting Services” in the US focused on Strategy, Management Consulting. Ajay is involved in City of Fremont and in the Bay area by Organizing ,Preserving ,Promoting and growing Indian Cutlure,Dances,Music,Indian Traditions and Values in the Younger generation by organizing events.

 

Over 700 people attended the event with about 100 children who participated in the Arts and Public Speaking Competition along with Dances. The program had Painting Competitions for Age Groups from Ages 3-14 Years along with Public Speaking Competition of kids at 10am of age groups 4-15 years. The Judges were Lara York of Unified School District of Fremont, Rohit Saini of Radio Zindagi, Sheetal Ohri of sheetalohri.com, Ray Mitra of Induz, Political Activist Shefali Razdan Duggal and Jaya Gautam of WomenNow TV. There was live Music and singing performances. The US National and the Indian National Anthems were sung after this which was followed by the Awards ceremony. Assembly Member Bob Wieckowski, Senator Ellen Corbett, Fremont Council member Anu Natrajan, Vice Mayor Suzanne Lee Chan, Hayward Council member Bill Quirk, San Jose Council member Ash Kalra, Ohlone College Board Trustee Teresa Cox and Milpitas Mayor Jose Esteves gave Awards for Recognition to Radio Zindagi’s partners, Praveen Suggala, Ajay Jain Bhutoria, Neeraj Dhar and Rohit Saini. Radio Zindagi started Special Awards Category ceremony from this year for Individuals who have contributed to the Community Selflessly. The awards were given to Political Activist Shefali Razdan Duggal, San Jose Council Member Ash Kalra, Murrali Krishnamurthy of Sankara Eye Foundation, Fremont Council Member Anu Natrajan and Diana Rohini Lavigne of SAJA for their selfless contributions in the Bay area Community.

 

SAJA Bayarea Co chair Nandita Verma also gave Certificates of Appreciation and support to Radio Zindagi and to Sheetal Ohri for their Outstanding achievements and contributions to the South Asian Journalists Association. The Children Awards and trophy ceremony followed after this for the children in 1st,2nd and third category along with the Special Mention category. All children were given a participation certificate.
